This includes a woman who has totally transformed her tired 1980s style bathroom into a chic modern space using bargains from The Range and B&M. Hayley Gore, from Norwich, wowed Facebook users with her handiwork after sharing before and pictures of the home project. The DIY fan, who works as a team manager at a food store, wrote: "1980s style bathroom, I hated it. "Could not afford a new one, but I've modernised it. "I hated people going in my bathroom, now I will be happy for them to." As well as turning to The Range and B&M, she also made affordable purchases from Asda and B&Q. This woman in Ghana is helping to protect front-line workers 1 face mask at a time

Gambar
LONDON -- When the coronavirus pandemic reached Ghana and a partial lockdown was imposed in the West African nation at the end of March, Nana Yaa Ofori-Atta sought to protect her loved ones and fellow citizens. "I was concerned for myself and my family. We couldn't really go out but you needed to sometimes," Ofori-Atta, 49, told ABC News in a recent telephone interview from her home in Accra. So she worked with a local dressmaker to craft reusable face masks from Ghanaian fabric in bright colors and patterns, usually reserved for high fashion. She initially gave the masks to her family and close friends but then wanted to make more so she should help those on the front lines of the country's novel coronavirus outbreak, she said. A friend recommended another local businesswoman who had a manufacturing team that could scale up production. Ofori-Atta soon had some 1,500 masks, most of which she donated to doctors, nurses and others who desperately needed perso

Need an alternative to an at-home haircut? Style expert has some ideas

Gambar
Depending on where exactly you live, it might still be hard to get a proper haircut -- but thanks to StyleWise style editor Jon Jordan, there are some alternatives if you're still nervous about cutting your hair at home. So, what's one solution? Slicking it back, of course! Jordan points out that slicked-back hair has always been in style, and it suits both men and women. In the video above, you'll see photos of celebrities such as Mark Wahlberg, Jeff Bridges, Kristen Stewart and Margot Robbie, as well as some long-forgotten celebrities like Gloria Vanderbilt and Diana Vreeland rocking the slick-backed hair. It's a timeless hairstyle. Even Diana Ross did a slicked-back hairstyle for one of her album covers. It's a look that will never go out of style. Any type of gel that you find at the store will give you the slicked-back look, but Jordan warns about buying a product with a ton of alcohol in it. Sometimes it can give your hair a dry and crunchy texture. Jordan sug

“We Are Not a Fashion Brand”: This Non-Profit is Helping Women in Juarez Through Garment Production

Gambar
In late January, protestors took to the streets of Juarez, Mexico, and chanted "not one more." They raised their voices after Isabel Cabanillas de la Torre, a 26-year-old local artist and activist was murdered, shot while cycling home. Her death reignited concern about the decades-long issue of violence against women, or "femicides," in the city of Juarez. According to a 2018 report by the RFK Human Rights and Center for Women's Holistic Development, from 1985 to 2014 there were 47,178 women killed in Juarez; last year, between January and July, 540 murders were recorded. This data doesn't account for the daily acts of violence against women, or the kidnappings of women and young girls that are rampant in this part of Mexico. Jane Terrazas grew up in Juarez, witnessing the discrimination and violence against women firsthand. Today, she is an artist and activist, and the organizer with Veronica Corchado and Lise Bjorne Linnert of the non-profit organization N

French nursing homes employees protest pay conditions

Gambar
PARIS (AP) — Employees of a major group of French nursing homes on Monday took part in protests across France to call for better pay amid the coronavirus crisis. Protesters gathered outside homes owned by the Korian group in Paris, Lille and other French cities in response to a call from several far-left unions. The government is formally opening on Monday two months of talks with health care workers over changes to France's public health system, which has suffered from decades of cuts. Korian is one of the market leaders in the provision of care for older adults. It has more than 850 facilities in Europe, employing more than 53,000 people and caring for 300,000 people in France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands and Spain. In France, where Korian manages nearly 300 care homes, the group is facing several lawsuits filed by families who have lost loved ones during the coronavirus pandemic. Prosecutors

The Art of Craft: How Elsa Peretti Designed Tiffany & Co.’s Bone Cuff to Draw Attention to the Elegance of a Woman’s Wrist

Gambar
There are three women whose legacies are as entwined in the story of Tiffany & Co. as they are in their own: Audrey Hepburn, Paloma Picasso, and Elsa Peretti. Of all three, Peretti has easily had the strongest influence on the design of the American jewelry house, with her sensuous, otherworldly designs totaling close to 10 percent of Tiffany's annual net sales—a testament to their enduring value and to her singular taste.   Born and raised in Rome, Florence, and Switzerland, Peretti was a strong-willed girl determined to forge her own path from that of her wealthy, conservative family. She began her working life at 23 as an Italian teacher and ski instructor, before moving to Milan to pursue a degree in interior design and an apprenticeship with the architect Dado Torrigiani. After just a year, she changed course again and started modeling, first in Barcelona and then in New York City, where she reportedly arrived for the first time with a will of steel and a bla

André Leon Talley on Blackness Religion and Why There’s Always Room for Divas in Fashion

Gambar
André Leon Talley photographed by Caitlin Cronenberg for W Magazine, 2017. André Leon Talley is a figure so extravagant in the world of high fashion that it is impossible to define him in just a few words. In his 70 years, Talley has been an academic, a fashion editor, a creative director (the first and only black man to hold that title at Vogue), a front row fixture, and a bon vivant who prides himself on his collection of caftans and lifelong attachment to dressing sharp no matter the occasion. He wasn't born into fashion royalty, but he certainly ascended its ranks. Talley's just-released memoir, The Chiffon Trenches, is a detailed account of how he got there, and the people he became close to (and subsequently fell out with) along the way. He also contemplates his current position in the pantheon of black individuals who opened space for others in the culture just by
