Outdoor Voices Founder Tyler Haney Is Back The Company Will Once Again Be Led By Women

Gambar
TOPLINE Outdoor Voices founder Tyler Haney is taking an active role in her company again after resigning as CEO earlier this year — leaving the company to be run by a male CEO and a mostly male board — the activewear company announced Sunday. KEY FACTS After Haney abruptly resigned as CEO in February, a New York Times report found that, at the start of the year, the company needed cash and that the deal was contingent upon replacing Haney on an interim basis with investor Cliff Moskowitz. Initially, Haney said she would stay on in a new role as "founder" but, days later, she said she was leaving the company. Outdoor Voices announced Sunday that the company received funding from NaHCO3, the investment management company run by sleepwear brand Lunya founder and CEO Ashley Merrill, and that she would be the new chairman.  As part of the shift, Haney will take an active role as one of the company's board members, WWD rep

Columbus company offers fashion tips

Gambar
Elizabeth Bean Smith, founder of Wardrobe Therapy, spoke with Columbus CEO about the fashion business and fashion. You've seen it on cable TV. The snooty stylist breezes in, pooh-poohs everything in a person's closet and starts chucking it into garbage cans. That's not Elizabeth Bean Smith. "I can't imagine doing that," laughs Smith, a fashion consultant and founder of Wardrobe Therapy. The firm offers wardrobe consulting and personal shopping services for women and men that are infused with Midwest gentility. Wardrobe Therapy's clients aren't just executives and business owners with big money to spend on clothes and a consultant to help them put looks together. Smith says her staff of four stylists offers services at different price levels, and their wardrobe suggestions fit clients' individual budgets. Smith started her career as a visual coordinator for Columbus-based Express before going into business for herself in 2006. In Dec

Fashion Model Halima Aden Helps Create Face Masks For Frontline Workers Wearing Hijabs Or Turbans

Gambar
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minnesota fashion model Halima Aden has a new design project: helping create face masks for frontline workers who wear hijabs or turbans. Aden, who was the first woman to wear a hijab in the Miss Minnesota pageant, teamed up with Allure Magazine and fashion start-up Anywear to bring the idea to life. The masks have caps or buttons, to help tie the mask in the back, over the hijab. "One of the obstacles was definitely the behind-the-ears face mask," she said. "As somebody who wears a hijab, it was very hard to adjust. Any time I had to remove a mask I would have to find privacy and so we really wanted to make this range of hijab sets very efficient." Aden said it was very important to create this new option so that frontline workers never had to remove a hijab. "Being somebody who worked in a hospital setting – I was a housekeeper at St. Cloud Hospital even seven months into my modeling career – I know those hassles when it comes to

Mina Gerges didn’t see anyone like him in the fashion world so the model decided to push for change himself

Gambar
Growing up Egyptian and gay, Mina Gerges didn't see anyone who looked like him reflected in the fashion world. But that hasn't stopped the Toronto-based activist from pursuing a career in modelling while proudly claiming his relatable physique – rolls, stretch marks and all. By challenging restrictive physical ideals for men, he's landed campaigns with global players like Sephora and Calvin Klein. Sharing with a 98,000-person following on Instagram, Gerges is on a mission to use his voice to inspire male body positivity. The Globe and Mail caught up with Gerges to find out how he is redefining beauty standards. At the beginning of June, you shared on Instagram that this Pride Month feels like the most significant one you've been a part of in your life. How are you feeling now? [Sighs.] Today I'm doing a lot better, but Sarah Hegazi, one of the really big activists in the queer Egyptian community, recently passed away, and I've been doing a lot of organizing w

Gambar
When it released in 2017, Wonder Woman became a surprise critical and box office success, earning overwhelmingly positive reviews and roughly over $821 million at the box office. Typically, studios want to recreate that success by making the sequel a slightly altered copy of the original, but according to Gal Gadot and Kristen Wiig, Wonder Woman 1984 doesn't feel like a sequel. The fashion edit: The most iconic fashion magazine covers in times of crisis

Gambar
When most countries completed their first month of complete lockdown in April, The New York Times asked, "What is the point of a fashion magazine now?"  Look at British Vogue's covers during World War II for the answer. You will see how fashion magazines have always been first responders in time of crisis. With cover lines like Wardrobe Planning: Coupons, Fabrics, Renovations, the September 1943 issue came with a pattern book showing women how to make the most of fabric rationing. Harper's Bazaar and Vogue go back well over a century; Italy's Grazia pre-dates World War II and France's Elle had its first issue just after the war ended. As Nonita Kalra, editor of Harper's Bazaar India (and former editor-in-chief of Elle India) says, "Magazines have always been chroniclers of how we feel and think. Fashion is driven by political, economic and social change."  British Vogue's September 1943 issue, during Word War II, came with a

Exclusive: Chad Daybell Allegations of Sexual Assault and Other 'Predatory' Behavior Toward Women Surface

Gambar
Chad Daybell allegedly sexually assaulted a female author with whom he worked while they were in a private meeting in December 2018, an incident that was part of a pattern of inappropriate and sometimes "predatory" behavior toward women, multiple sources told Inside Edition Digital. Julie Rowe is an author who published multiple books with Chad between 2014 and 2017. She said that during a meeting and energy healing session with him in Rexburg, Idaho in mid-December 2018, Chad forcibly kissed her, got on top of her and while they were clothed, rubbed his genitals against her body.   "I had no idea that he was going to do what he did to me, and I felt very betrayed," Rowe told Inside Edition Digital of the incident, which she has not spoken about publicly before. "I felt used, abused, manipulated. I felt betrayed. It was awful." Rowe did not report her sexual assault allegations to police. Inside Edition Digital confirmed with two people that Rowe shared he

Why Long Tall Sally closing down is especially disastrous for tall women

Gambar
Long Tall Sally, the world's top international tall women's clothier, announced on Tuesday that it is closing, leaving tall women around the world in a lurch. The brand catered to women over a certain height and was also popular among many taller trans women. Some expressed their distress on Twitter today: The shuttering is particularly disastrous to customers because the company had bought up competitors across the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Germany, including Canada's Tall Girl Shop, Dutch rival Pretty Tall, German company Long Fashion, U.S. shop Long Elegant Legs, and U.S. tall shoe retailer Barefoot Tess. A letter to customers explained that the 44-year-old brand has "relied heavily on shareholder support," and that "the economy is now too uncertain for our shareholders to continue to support the business." The company had 26 shops in the U.K., U.S., Canada, and Germany when it was purchased in 2016 by German company TriStyle, which also owns brands Pete

Pricing and availability are subject to change.  Queers, like myself, have begun to question the way some brands decide to show support of the LGBTQIA community when Pride comes around. A lot of brands will merely slap a rainbow on products, and some have yet to update the rainbow flag to represent Black and brown folx. However, the Dolce Vita Pride Collection is a step towards understanding how LGBTQIA people want to be celebrated. The Dolce Vita Pride Collection has partnered in designing each shoe with The Trevor Project, an organization for suicide prevention efforts among LGBTQIA youth. Dolce Vita has already donated $50,000 to the organization but took the work a step further to partner with the brand in the shoe collection as well. I
